Hello everyone!
I am a graduate student in Linguistics at New York University, and I'm currently working on my dissertation on, well, people just like you! A big part of my research is on anglophone born-and-bred Canadians who have since moved to the NY/NJ region. I'm interested in the differences, both cultural and linguistic, between your native and adopted homes, and to find out more about this I'm conducting interviews with expat Canadians. Would anyone here be interested in talking with me? What this would entail: sitting down with me for an hour or so, and chatting about topics like where you grew up, what brought you to the States, and your experiences making the transition, then reading a word list. The interview would be recorded for later analysis, but no one besides me (and possibly my dissertation adviser) would have access to it. Our discussion can take place anywhere that's convenient and comfortable for you, as long as it is reasonably quiet and accessible by NYC/NJ transit (a true New Yorker, I have no car!). If this sounds interesting to you, please send me an email at the address (spelled out) below, and I'll tell you more. Thank you for reading - I look forward to speaking with some of you!
